Abstract

|
Spectrophotometric and polarimetric studies of erythromycin, lincomycin and clindamycin are described.
Ultraviolet absorption curves of erythromycin base and lactobionate are not varied in the range of pH 5-8 and pH 3-12. Infrared band assignments of erythromycin base in chloroform and by KBr disk are different from each other in C=O stretching bands.
Rotatory power of erythromycin base and lincomycin-HCI monohydrate, according to change of pH value in aqueous solution, has a tendency to decrease with increasing acidity, while clindamycin phosphate revealed inverted tendency.
